Pi's religion

How can Pi be three religions at once? Discuss what comfort he finds in each one individually. How does this apparent contradiction serve to help him survive?

I think Pi can be three religions at one time because he believes in all of it at the same time. I think he believes that the religions kind of interlock like the way the story of the flood and noah's arc is in a number of different cultures. By believing in so many different things, pi shows that he is strong with some kind of higher spirit, which i think helped him survive. it helped him create a routine in any case which made the days pass quicker.

Pi was muslim, christian, and Hindu all of these religions advanced his knowledge on everyday life. So this new found knowledge was put to the test daily while he was stranded out in the ocean by himself. He could be all three because thats what he wanted, his parents disapproved but he liked everything he learned about them and couldn't pick just one to be. The contradictions between the three religions gave him a positive affect on Pi. He had knowledge from three different groups of people and one of the three always helped solve problems he faced.

i agree with taylor that all the religions he believed in made him a stronger person and gave him a higher spirit feeling thinking he could survive anything.

I beleive Pi beleives in different aspects of each religion. BY showing he beleives in three religions shows he had a strong faith in somethings larger than himself that would help him through any situation.

Pi had three religions; and there is no rule that says you can’t be all 3. There was something that he agrees with out of all of them. And since their different then in each one help in a different way to survive. If one of them contradicted what he was doing the other dint; making him make a decision each time by following one of his religion.

i agree with Fabi that there is no rule to say that you cant be all three religions at one time. i also agree with the fact (from fabi) that they all made him a stronger person and helped him survive.

Pi liked different qualities of all three religions and did not just want to be one. from these religions he found ways to survive each and every day. all three religions had their strengths and weekneses. i agree with taylor d in the fact that showing he had faith in three different religons showed that he belived in the greater good.

Pi was a little bit of every thing. He was Muslim, Christian and Hindu, he was all three of these religions simply because that is what he liked. He liked all three of the religions, they all had something to offer him and something to help him grow and live life. Even though his family was not happy he could do what ever he wanted to do and that was good for him. He was able to look at life like no other people around him could.

I believe one can be as many religions as he or she wants, It all has the same basic ideas, One God who created all. I think the fact that Pi believes in the 3 shows maybe something to the author himself and his religious ideas.

Daniel’s idea is really good. I agree with how he says that all the religions are all sort of the same. They all have one God who created everything, and Pi is able to express that in three different ways.

PI was three religons all at once because he believed in all different aspects of the religons and each gave him a different comfort. the way the different religons interacted with each other gave him a new look on life and gave him the ability to survive just thinking he can show this to other people when he gets back

i agree with what glen said that each religon makes him complete and that each religon would help him grow in the end

I think that Pi being three religions at once aided him in surrviving. it helped him because he saw the world in 3 different perspectives; religiously wise. He didn't have a one sided view on life and i think this applies to how the author thinks about religion in real life too.

I too agree with fabi. Just because you may only believe in one God dosn't mean there is just one religion you belive in. A person could just like certain parts of each religion and together he creates...a super religion.

i think its okay to have 3 religions at once, because he was completely faithful and dedicated to each one. his knowledge that he gained from studying these religions was deffinately useful in helping him solve his everyday problems, like the fact that hes stranded out at sea with a 400 pound tiger.

i agree with ashley, if pi wants to have 3 religions than thats what hes going to do. there should be no problem with it. i also agree with her in saying that each of the different religions gave him different kinds of knowledge and help in everyday life and with being stranded.

I believe he could be all three religions at once because he finds that most things said in all the religeons is near the same and he can find them all to be true. this helps him in the fact he has many things to believe in when he is out on the ocean for so long.
